Today, exactly one week after his passing, the SJSU School of Journalism and Mass Communications holds its Convocation for 130 students. Every one of them, and the thousands who came before them, are in his debt. Thank you Professor Bentel for setting the bar so high.

Dwight Bentel was the most loving,forthwright, honorable human being--clearly standing head and shoulders above society of today. He brought love, joy and crystal clear intellient thinking wherever he went. He will be truly missed. Dwight was a magnificent human being. We were honored to have ever known this incredibe, amazing, stellar person. He was extremely modest and a real can do person. Did you ever tell us Dwight--just how many stories is the SJSU Journalism Dept you founded? Not a word. He should be honored by all--a Magnificent American. President Obama should recognize this tremendous American who devoted his life for truth,free speech and the American perseverance. How many award winning Journalists did you and your department educate/inspire?
He was a life long friend of the Norris/Malovos Families in SF and SJ For this we are truly grateful. Miss you Dwight--Love you.

If it wasn't for the program he started, so many of us wouldn't be where we are now.

Without doubt, Dr Bentel was one of the best professors I ever had in college. I loved his libel law class, and always entered it well prepared because he was a master at logic and argumentation, and would challenge you to think at every turn. I still remember everything he taught in our libel law textbook -- which he wrote himself. He was truly a great teacher, and a terrific role model for many of his students.

Dwight Bentel's dedication to Journalism and ensuring that every graduate was fully prepared to enter the field was an inspiration to all of us who knew him.
I can personally attest to not having to ask "what's that and what do I need to do" to get a story when I first stepped into a newsroom just after graduating in 1963. It was all due to Dwight, his faculty, and San Jose State.

I will miss him,
