Just learned about the loss of Katie (through reading the St. Mary's Courier) whom I last saw before I left the San Francisco area to move back to my L.A. hometown. So glad to see from the photo the look in Katie's eyes and the beautiful smile that the same Katie I knew as a homesick first semester freshman (who had the biggest crush on her lovely late brother) obviously never lost her her unique persona. Katie wore her soul on her sleeve and we who knew and loved her became the better for knowing her. She had that kind of effect on people She was ALWAYS there to listen to me in my missing California even though I had to have been a drag. I left L.A. for St. Mary's in 1958 via the train with the Carroll family (minus Dr. Carroll) as Katie was returning for her sophomore year and Vince and I were incoming freshmen. This was a kindness on the their part as we had not met previously. Katie was still in mourning the loss for her beloved high school sweetheart, killed in a senseless auto accident, and having to leave behind her best high school girlfriend, Tibi. Even then Katie was capable of deep and everlasting love. Then a few years later when Vince was also killed in another unfortunate accident, leaving behind his beloved wife and sons, Katie's melancholy was refueled. (She in Vince were so close that at the moment of that early morning crash Katie had been taking a shower felt the impact (!) and instantly knew something was wrong.) My last visit to the Mahoney home must have been in the a.m. in late 1965 and I think there were three children at that time. Always recall how happy the baby boy (?) was to be in his playpen in the midst of all the noise and activity. I will never forget Katie, Vince and Dr. and Mrs. Carroll. I know I was the richer for knowing them. I am sad to know Katie is no longer here--but know her spirit lives on and I can only imagine the beautiful family she helped to co-create. I am grateful that she was my friend and have always 'missed' her.

So sorry for your loss. God has given us a life span of 70 or 80 years. Mrs. Kathleen enjoyed a life well lived. She was especially strong. Ps. 90:10

Dear Aunt Katie,
Thank you for never being too busy to help others. I recall some very special memories of your presence and guidance. Thank you for everything you've done for me and our family. You will truly live in our hearts forever.

So very sorry for the loss of this sweet lady and cousin! She will be missed and never forgotten. When I lost my grandmother, I found Jehovah Witnesses provided great comfort and hope to me. You might look them up for the same.
