I just learned of Marty's passing, so my message is very late in coming. Marty was a great friend and influence for me when I first met him 40 years ago. I moved away from the Bay Area 20 years ago, so my contact has been mainly by phone and e-mail. Marty was truly one-of-a kind with a huge heart and a great spirit. My thoughts are with his family.

I met Marty at the VA in Palo Alto in 2006. He was an interesting fellow. Likable and smart. I will always remember him. Only met him the one time but we spoke as if we knew each other for years. Told me of his Boxing experiences, and how he liked business. God Bless Him!

I'm awfully sorry to hear of Marty's passing. You remember those who bring forward something upbeat, and always believing in the good in people. I think that's how I'll remember Marty.

Marty happened by one day at the same time as a KRON-4 journalist and cameraman. It developed that they'd both served in the 101st AB, just some years apart.

Now, for a civilian like me, hearing of guys jumping out of planes in the pitch black of night was a real eye-opener. It gave me just a glimpse of what it meant to truly serve, whether in the 101st or in Little Rock, Arkansas.

I only saw Marty occasionally, but he made a big impression on me. Please accept my condolences on the passing of a fine gentleman.
