Mary Ellen Pozos
Aug. 27, 1941 - July 6, 2018
Resident of San Jose
Mary Ellen Pozos passed away July 6 at age 76. She was born to Dr. Edward F. Ducey and Mary Stanley Gehring on August 27, 1941 in Detroit, Michigan.
Mary Ellen was the younger sister of Donald Ducey and the late Edward Ducey. She spent most of her young childhood in Grand Rapids, Michigan, moving to Southern California for her high school years and was a ranked tennis player.
A devoted mother, Mary Ellen is survived by her daughters, Mary Bridget Gray (Daniel), and Catherine Anne "Kittie" Pozos. She was a doting Nana to four grandchildren: Catherine, Daniel and Steven Gray and Carlos Constantinides.
She cherished her career at St. Francis High School in Mountain View. While her main duties were in the business office, her contributions to the school were many, varied and lasting. As a side note, she was the first female to be allowed in the Coaches Fantasy Football league, winning the championship her first season.
A believer in the power of faith, family and friends, Mary Ellen will be greatly missed. She is interred at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Los Altos.

Today's return of 2018 Christmas card prompted a Google search that resulted in finding the sad news of Mary Ellen's death. We had been friends since September 1959 when we became roommates at San Francisco College for Women. Six freshmen shared a classroom that had been turned into a makeshift dorm called Alta Vista right acros the hall from the library. Both of us were born in Detroit about 16 days apart. We became good friends and our Sophmore year we shared a room on Twer corridor. Mary Ellen was the neat one. As Freshmen our room was inspected by Mother Mapa regarding tidiness in the form of a weeping angel,Mary Ellen never received one, but I did. My first Thanksgiving in California was spent in Ventura with her family. After her engagement to Tony, she didn't return for her Junior year and so we became pen pals. I learned all the happenings and successes of Kittie and Bridget and the grandchildren and I shared storiess about Roger and my Joseph and Elizabeth.we almost had a chance to meet a few years when I came back for a class reunion but a phone call was missed. In the Sacred Heart hymn are the words one day "we will stand in ranks unbroken on the everlasting shore."I will miss our Christmas updates and knowing how she is doing and how proud she was of her family. Love to all of them from Barbara (Selewski) Ferguson.
