Paula Jean Kalivoda Furniss
November 24, 1952 - March 26, 2021
Resident of San Jose
Paula, age 68, was born on November 24, 1952, in Rockford, IL. Known to few when she entered the world as Paula Jean Kalivoda, she was known and cherished by many when she left it as Paula Jean Kalivoda Furniss.
Over the course of her life she worked as a legislative analyst with the US House of Representatives and as a publication editor and director of public affairs for associations in Washington, D.C. Drawing on her considerable French language skills, she also became a French language instructor and tutor in the Washington, D.C. area, the North Shore of Illinois, and San Jose, CA, and created a French Language and Culture Orientation program at the US Mission, Geneva, Switzerland. Ever aware that the benefits that life bestowed on her were not shared in equal measure by those less fortunate, she volunteered her time and enthusiastic efforts on behalf of several charitable organizations.
One of the last things she said to her husband, William, was that she wanted everyone to know that "I loved my life." It was a love we all shared. Paula will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all the many people who were lucky to have known her and to have basked in the warmth of her enduring friendship.
She leaves behind husband, William, son Nathaniel of San Francisco, daughter Adrienne of San Jose, CA, daughter-in-law, Aparna and granddaughter, Celine of San Francisco. She also leaves behind two sisters, Kathy Heisel of Rockford, IL and Sarah Scheerens of Tucson, AZ.
In lieu of flowers, Paula requested that any donations be sent to the Assistance League's Caring Hands at PO Box 20174, San Jose, CA 95160 or Severson Dells Nature Center at 8786 Montague Rd., Rockford, IL 61102.

My deepest and most sincere condolences in the loss of our dear Paula. She was a Tri Delta sorority sister of mine at Univ of IL. Her bright sparkle and intelligence will always be a dear memory for me. Her sincere caring for others and her listening ear were a blessing to all who knew her. May she Rest In Peace now and May her memory be ever eternal. .
