November 10, 1934 - April 4, 2021
Rita (Rudy) McCarty passed peacefully, in the company of loved ones on April 8, 2021. Born on November 10, 1934, in Elgin, Illinois to Elmer and Bernice Rudy, she grew-up in Illinois with her two older brothers (Elmer and David) and younger sister (Donna). After graduating high school, she attended Beloit College in Wisconsin, where she received a bachelor's degree in Mathematics in 1956 and was a proud member of Kappa Alpha Theta.
Upon graduating, she worked as a mathematician for General Electric in Cincinnati, Ohio. There she met and fell in love with, Lyle McCarty, whom she married on July 19, 1958. To say the least it was a wonderful marriage that lasted 53 years. But, as their favorite song says, "Our Love is Here to Stay."
And loved she did. Rita's biggest joy was her family. Her life centered around her four children and, later, her grandchildren. In addition to caring for her family, Mom/Nana always made the time to let each family member know they were loved and her number one priority.
Rita greatly enjoyed living in Saratoga and interacting with many of its residents. A real "people person," she loved conversing with friends, neighbors, and fellow Saratogans. Whether getting together with her neighborhood ladies bridge club, gathering at the Saratoga Foothill Club (where she was President from 1998-99), attending panhellenic / sorority meetings, or working out at the YMCA, Rita always looked forward to socializing with her many, many dear friends.
Rita is survived by her children, Kathy Johnson, Lyle McCarty, Bruce McCarty (wife Gina) and Meg Planka (wife Judy), her grandchildren, Kayla McCarty, Cameron McCarty, Connor McCarty, Delaney Planka, Jamie Planka, Kellee Johnson and Kevin Johnson and her sister Donna Rudy (husband Jim).
A celebration of Rita's life will be held on July 10th at 11:00 am at Madronia Cemetery in Saratoga followed by a reception. Due to Covid policies, please let Meg know if you plan to attend 415-810-0345. View the online memorial for Rita McCarty
