What do you need? These four unpretentious and genuine words were my greeting from Brother Robert Carberry when I arrived at St. Francis High School, Mountain View, CA in the summer of 1965. As I learned over the years that was Roberts effortless and sincere acknowledgment to everyone in his 61 years of service as a Brother of Holy Cross.

The test was to come up with a need Robert couldnt grant! Yes, Robert always had a pick-up, van, semi or warehouse teeming with more bits and pieces than Santas bag on Christmas morning, ready to fulfill the articulated or heartfelt needs. He was a dedicated man with hope to bring, who put it into the action!

Most importantly Robert was most ready to address the needs of Community, first within Holy Cross and then streaming forth to all corners of the city, county, state, and beyond. Roberts care knew no boundaries.

Robert, will always remain our Brother, our Friend and one of our CSC treasures.

To complete his life, it was God who asked Robert, What do you need? and thankfully Robert was granted what he needed, Eternal Rest.
Brother Michael Brickman, CSC
