Rod and I dated in high school though went our separate ways after. He had grown close to my mom and they stayed friends for years. In recent years we reconnected on occasion, and every year he sent me an email on my birthday. In fact, the Fremont High School 55th class of '64 reunion is coming up Oct. 25 and I was looking forward to seeing him. We'll have a toast for him instead, the inveterate partier.

The picture is from a 1966 4th of July party in my mom's back yard in Sunnyvale. Rod had invented these shenanigans. First a war dance around the fireworks fountain. I wish the site would take 2 photos, as I have another of his "runway" of sparklers and trash can lid "wings" for a crash landing. As I recall, the crash landing was a little rough, but it was the most hilarious 4th of July ever! We'll celebrate in heaven again, Rod!

I was looking forward to seeing you at the 55th Fremont High reunion on Oct. 24-25. We'll miss you and your laugh. See you in heaven in the future, though!
