I knew Tom (Fr. Buckley) through his late father, Colonel Michael Buckley, who lived to be 104. Tom, an his brother Mike (also SJ) were very supportive of his father as the oldest graduate of West Point around here, and eventually for the whole institution. Tom accompanied his father to his Alma Mater for ceremonies back there, and for simple luncheons held by the West Point Society of Silicon Valley. .... May Tom rest in peace, along with his father and mother.

Tom was my professor of history at Loyola Marymount in 1974. For the next 40 years Father Buckley was a close personal friend, and a regular visitor in Washington, DC. If his vocation was history, his passion was discussing politics. He was progressive in outlook and vigorous in presenting his views, while greatly enjoying the debate. He cared for his students, was devoted in his faith, and a great American. Peace of Christ be with you Father Buckley.

Tom and I became friends through his excellent scholarly work on Virginia history. He was one of the loveliest and kindest people I have ever known, one of those rare folks who made people feel better by his very presence. I am so grateful our paths crossed. My condolences to his family and friends.

Tom was my teacher at SI when he was a scholastic. We dragged him along on our outings. I enjoyed his company, and he was the reason I went to Santa Clara.
