What can I say about this Saint of a man? He taught me to be tough where it counted and he showed me what it meant to be of service to God and country. His strong voice and determined marching cadence was always in the back of my mind even during the toughest times of my own military training, but it was the memory of his loving smile that always got me through the day. Sergeant Bill Callas was an American Hero and he had a profound impact on the lives of myself and my brother and sister at Mt. Camel School, not to mention countless others. We looked up to him as a teacher, leader, coach and friend. Mr. Callas inspired us to always work harder and strive to be better in all that we did. He was the embodiment of the Our Lady of Mount Carmel song and the spirit it inspires. We are so sad to see him go. We have all lost big timebut we are so grateful, for heaven has gained another Saint. Godspeed, good sergeant. We salute you and your life of love and service to the community, to your country and The Lord. Another Saint goes marching on...

He gave it his all every single day. I remember how fit he was as he would walk the campus and climb all the steps to the upper floor several times after a very busy day of teaching. He ate such healthy lunches and loved his wife's nutritious muffins. He stressed athletic skill building and good sportsmanship was his primary focus. Bill always had time for a chat and his stories were always interesting. He and Evelyn hosted several gatherings for the faculty at their home and Bill was always proud of showing what they had grown. How proud we were of Bill when Kennedy School dedicated and named their gym after him. What a tribute to such a gentle righteous man. I'm sure he's keeping everybody in shape up in heaven. I was fortunate to teach with you, Bill.

Mr. Callas was my PE teacher at Mt. Carmel for nine years. I remember being so scared when I had my first class with him in kindergarten, he seemed like the tallest man I had ever seen! Within the first minute of class I felt immediately at ease with his gentle nature and sweetness. Throughout the years at school he always remained one of my favorites. When I returned to the school years after graduating to work there as a teacher's aid, we reconnected and I felt so at home seeing him in the halls or in the yard. He was just as wonderful all those years later, and if possible he only got kinder and more lovely with time. My heart is broken to hear of his passing but I feel so blessed to have known this wonderful man.

I am grateful to have shared an office at Our Lady of Mount Carmel with Bill for a few years. He was always very kind to me. I loved talking with him and hearing the stories of his youth. He was an inspiration to me and to many others. I will keep his family in my prayers.
