To The Brickel Family
It was a warm sunny day in Bad Axe at the little league fields. I was coaching 3rd base for the Braves and we were playing the Red Sox on the South field. Bases were loaded with Nick on 3rd base. We were involved in a close game but Nick didn't seem to concerned he just knew we were going to win. He said to me "coach I am going to score on a fly ball". I told him on a short fly to the out field go ahead tag up and score. Well the batter hit a short fly but not to the outfield it was to the 2nd baseman and I figured he would stay put. HA! The umpire called infield fly rule so the batter was automatically out and I saw Nick getting ready to go. I thought OH NO. The second baseman caught the ball and Nick took off. Safe at home was the umpires call and it really wasn't that close. But the opposing teams manager come out of the dugout and told me that I couldn't do that and I explained to him that yes he could advance at his own risk. I do not know if Nick knew that or not, but his speed bailed us out again as he did many times before. After the game the coach came over and apologized for making a scene and told me I was right. Thank you Nick for those years.
Love all you guys.

What would i like to say about Nicholas (Nick)???? That as i sit here trying to type through watery eyes that my heart is saddened for such a tragic loss to his family, his friends, and anyone who had a chance to have him in their life these past few (way too few) years. What a delight he was to coach in 7th grade basketball, and JV football. Skilled beyond his years on the court at the old Bad Axe Jr. Hi. Always that infectious grin and attitude. I think he even went to Bay Shore basketball camp one year. Tears are hard to see through, but we will all see through this somehow. GOD speed to Dave, Tom, Matt, and all the family. Our hearts are broke and saddened. Nick was the little brother to a great childhood friend. The smallest of three with no fear of the older boys on the driveway basketball court. The fact that I have fond memories of him makes me lucky.
The Brickels and their family will remain in our prayers

Nick was baptized into Christ as an infant. Then he participated in a 15 session Youth Confirmation Class and confirmed his faith in Christ when he was in junior high school. Nick also regularly worshipped at First United Methodist Church of Bad Axe with his parents and brothers. It was always a great thing to see Nicks terrific smile in the congregation! Gods glorious promise to Nick Brickel is: Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. (Isaiah 43:1). Pastor Bill Wright
