I write this on the day that Paul is put to eternal rest. Prayers are raised for him and all his family and friends. As a fellow diehard Yankees fan, Krabman (as he posted on the Yankees board) and I , along with many other regular posters shared our passion and love for the Yankees. As the years passed, our group became much more, sharing stories and pieces of our lives. Krab reminded me of my uncle in so many ways, one of which was his pure joy in being a grandfather. He once posted that "everybody needs someone in their life to change their life around .....my grandson Nick was that person.for me...he is now 16 how time flies" Maybe 8 or 9 years ago, I had recommended the PawSox stadium in Pawtucket, RI, for Krab to take his family. Wanting to make his grandson Nick happy, he was having a difficult time finding a hotel with a pool so that Nick could swim. I messaged him some recommendations and he and his family were able to find what they were looking for- close to the zoo was a major plus as well! He and his wife had offered to meet and give me some blue crabs in an expression of appreciation. I was so touched by that offer- a simple note of recommendations reciprocated with such a genuine offer of generosity. I responded that it wasn't necessary, but would love a couple crabbing tips as my father enjoys a great pot of crab sauce (our whole family does, really!)....Krab responded with tips of what kinds of traps, directions, and all the ins and outs. I do not fish, but, I do know what it means for a fisherman to share his secrets. He did so freely to someone he had never met! I think that captured who he was. He also shared a common passion for gardening and fresh tomato sauce. Last summer, he asked me about a small electric rototiller that I had bought, as he wanted a means to weed those tomato plants! He persevered for what he loved-his family first, fishing, Yankees and gardening not far behind. I will miss his posts, his straightforward way of expressing himself, our Yankee and culinary exchanges, and his humor. When my father and I finally drop our crab traps at Old Saybrook, that pot of crab sauce will be toasted to you, Krabman!
