Marie (Omholt) Tychsen passed away on August 29, 2017 in Middletown after a long struggle with cancer. Born in Norway, she lived most of her life in Connecticut, and she leaves behind her husband of 58 years, Alfred, and her two children, John and Anita, as well as a sister, Astrid Paterno of Cheshire, and a brother, Thore Omholt, of Huntington Station, New York. Marie's priority throughout her life was her family. She supported her husband's career, moving where his job took him, and provided a warm and loving home for her children. No matter where they lived, whether Asia, Europe or South America, her children knew that she was their number one fan. Her phone calls, cards and emails kept "the four musketeers" close. Marie worked for many years as a real estate agent in South Windsor. She began her work in the mid-1970s, and continued working part-time until 2010. She loved the variety of housing styles, and had a keen eye for home decor. Her friends and neighbors knew her as having a green thumb, and her garden was her passion project. She spent countless hours coaxing plants to bloom, and enjoyed a park-like yard. At the end, when she was not very mobile, her deck and flowers were a sanctuary, where she could take pleasure in being outside, puttering around with her potted flowers. The family will hold a private funeral service. Friends and family may call on Tuesday, September 5 from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm at the Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 old Church Street, Middletown. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Marie's memory to Middlesex Hospital Homecare - Hospice and Palliative Care, 28 Crescent Street, Middletown, Connecticut, 06457. They provided excellent and loving care to Marie and her family over the past year. Her husband and children will always remember her as a kind, caring and compassionate wife and mother completely dedicated to her family. Dear Al and Family, I am saddened about Marie's passing I am relieved to know that she will always be with us, without her pain and suffering.
While I will miss her beautiful face I will keep her can-do attitude in my heart as a reminder when life gets me down. She always saw the brightest side of life. And she always offered words of support and kindness to me during our conversations.
It was always a joy to see you and Marie at the Russell Library. I always looked forward to talking to her and she had such a positive attitude about life.

Al, Marie was the candle. May you find comfort in the days ahead, and may Marie's love for you surround you in your saddest moments and lighten your heart.
