Thomas J. MacDonald, Jr.

Modesto, California - Tom MacDonald, age 76, passed away Wednesday May 5, 2021 with his wife Jeannie and his children by his side. Born on November 30, 1944 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Tom attended Philadelphia area Catholic schools. Upon graduation from La Salle University, he began work in sales moving west to Manhattan Beach, California, where he met Jeannie Angelo. On October 9, 1971, Tom and Jeannie were married in Modesto, California. They spent a short time in St. Louis, Missouri, before settling in Modesto where they raised their five children. Tom began work at Paul M. Zagaris Real Estate, now PMZ, in 1973, setting the early foundation of a 48-year career in real estate in the Central Valley. He was passionate about personal relationships with his clients, understanding the responsibility of helping families find their home. Tom was a life-long learner and avid reader whose passion for knowledge was endless. His warmth, generosity and intelligence were felt by all who knew him. He loved spending time with his family, watching his grandkids play tennis, baseball, basketball and soccer.
Tom is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jeannie Angelo MacDonald, his daughters, Lisa (Gerard) Thoukis of Modesto, Jenna (Steven) Knudsen of Los Angeles, Jamie MacDonald of Modesto, Katie (Tom) Schendel of Lincoln, and his son, TJ MacDonald III of Modesto and his grandchildren, Georgia Thoukis and Stefan Thoukis of Modesto, Julian Knudsen of Los Angeles and William Schendel and George Schendel of Lincoln. He is also survived by his brother Jack (Adele) MacDonald of Springfield, Pennsylvania and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Joseph and Mary Elin MacDonald.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Thursday, May 13, 2021 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church at 1813 Oakdale Road, Modesto, CA. Committal Services will be held at Lakewood Memorial Park in Hughson. A vigil service will be held for the immediate family. The family has requested in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tom's name to Stanco (Stanislaus County Affordable Housing) at 909 15th Street, Suite 6, Modesto, CA 95354 or Lodi Association of Realtors (Christmas CanTree) at 777 S. Ham Lane, Lodi, CA 95242.
