Robert Henry McCall

Robert Henry McCall, age 64, passed away on April 6, 2021.

Robert was born on April 8, 1956, in Montgomery, Alabama, the son of the late Robert McCall and Elizabeth R. McCall. He is survived by his wife of 37 years Jacqueline McCall and their two children Sondra Reese and Robert A. McCall. He is also survived by his sister Rose McCall and is predeceased by his sister Yvonne McCall. Additionally, he leaves behind by many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A lifelong resident of Montgomery, he attended Carver High School and graduated with the Class of 1973. Robert is fondly remembered as being a part of the Esquire Club during high school. Throughout his life, he was a fan of the Carver Wolverines, and more recently he was involved in alumni activities.

In 1977, he graduated from the Tuskegee Institute with a degree in Sociology. He then proudly served in the United States Army for four years. After his military service, he went on to earn a Master of Public Administration degree.

Warmly known as "Bob" to his coworkers, he worked for STERIS Corporation for 28 years where he is remembered for his deep institutional knowledge and the variety of roles that he held at the company. During his tenure, he worked as a Draftsman, Product Designer, Senior Regulatory Affairs Specialist, and Senior Quality Systems Specialist. His professional achievements include earning the Regulatory Affairs Professionals Society's (R.A.P.S.) Regulatory Affairs Certification (RAC) and participating on the AdvaMed (formerly HIMA) Reportable Events Committee. Following his retirement in 2018, he received the distinguished title of RAC Emeritus.

Outside of work, Robert enjoyed several hobbies, especially chess, photography, and reading. He also cherished being a longtime member of the National Geographic Society. As a loyal sports fan, Robert loved the Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics, and Alabama Crimson Tide (Roll Tide!). His deepest affection was for THE Green Bay Packers, and for most of the last decade he happily acted as a shareholder of the Packers.

Robert (Dr Bob) was one of the most honorable men I've ever met. I'll never forget our time together working at Steris. He had the utmost respect of all. I fondly remember the late calls to make sure we are always thinking of the people who would use our products and protecting the public. Robert ALWAYS thought of others. A true example for our future. We got our RAC cert together, and so many other things that made working with him so enjoyable. He was always a model of utmost character and so proud of his children he could just burst. I recall a hilarious trip to Washington DC where Robert helped us get back on track after getting lost in a dicey part of town, handling the locals with amazing aplomb. Robert was truly a man of many talents. No one has caused me to think so deeply, or laugh so hard. A wonderful man. Robert will be missed, and honored by his friends and colleagues. He was an example to us all. Truly.

He will also be missed on the golf course, where he was truly a terrible golfer, but enjoyed it nonetheless and brought such great joy to his friends.

Robert, if you see this now I hope you smile at my fondest remembrance "I'll bet you're glad I'm with you now, Tom!" haha...I'm laughing and weeping at the same time. God bless you, Robert and your whole family.

I have a broken heart today, as well as many others, to learn about Robert’s passing. He was a kind, loving, jovial man and will be greatly missed. I worked with Robert at STERIS. Whenever I would run in to him after I left there, he would always greet me with a smile and big hug! I treasure the memories of us talking and laughing in the Winn Dixie parking lot. To his family, my thoughts and prayers are with you. This world has lost a genuine diamond. God Speed, Robert. Love you always.
