HOLLAND, George Hickson
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of George Hickson Holland; wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He leaves behind many fond memories for his wife of 62 years, Nancy (Sheppard) and for his sons David (Judy), and Bob (Nancy). He was tremendous mentor and very dear to his grandchildren Kate, Tracy (Brandon), Sara, James and Jennifer. He was always there for his family to share in the joy and support in tougher times. He will be missed beyond words. A graduate of both McGill and Harvard Universities, George was a very successful businessman, having been Chairman and President of Robert Mitchell Limited for many decades. His involvement in the community and provincial politics left him with many life- long friends and kept him active. George's kindness touched many people over his 86 years. We know that the sadness of his loss eventually will be replaced by the memory of his life. The family will hold a private service in his memory. The family would like to express its gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff of the Jewish General Hospital for their kindness and compassion. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Montreal West Children's Library, 314 Northview Street, Montreal West, QC, H4X 1E2 would be greatly appreciated as a library for children meant a great deal to his wife and him.

Dear Nancy, Dave, Bob and extended Holland family

My heartfelt sympathy goes out to you all. I heard of the news through the Dorval Island grapevine (it eventually gets to the UK). I have such great childhood memories of George and the rest of the Holland family. Racing about on my bike, I often saw George at the tennis court. He was forever friendly and kind and those thoughts will last my lifetime.

With warm regards, Scott McKeown

I will always remember the support that you both gave us in the time of need as well as all the family outings that we had together many years ago like they were yesterday. The pain of his absence will linger forever. How fortunate you were to have had so many years to share. You are in my thoughts on this day. Margaret Short

Dear Nancy, David and Bob:

Saddened to learn of George's passing. Fond memories of Dorval Island, particularly of the times George spent on the tennis court toying with with some teenage players, putting a certain spin on his serve.

With sympathy,

Dear Nancy,

I want to express my deepest sympathies to you, your children and grandchildren on your loss. George was a true gentleman who cared about his famiily, his community, his province and his country.

I will miss our periodic lunches where he continued to display a keen knowledge of Quebec and a deep interest in the politics of this province.

Dear Nancy --
I heard today of the passing of your husband and my great friend. Although I worked for George for 30 years, my fondest memories were of the hours we spent together talking about books and the great leaders - from Jefferson to Churchill - who we so admired. We built a great company together, he and I - and the people who helped us. We were both very proud of that. It was the bond we created, however -- two individuals from very different backgrounds -- that never felt there was a "border" between us. Ours was a relationship I will treasure to the end of my life. I know the tower of strength you were for him and the precious relationship you shared. You both were so blessed to have had each other. Diane and I send our warmest regards and sympathy to you and your family. We will always cherish the memory of your beloved husband and father of your sons.

My heartfelt sympathy goes out to you all. My kids have fond memories of helping George putter in his garden. My memories are of tennis, sailing and crossword puzzles. He often tried putting strange words in, like John still does! The Hollands, Millers and Chadwicks went back a long way and I feel blessed to have been part of that for so much of my life. You are in our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. Marylou, John, Laurie, Karen and Bill

Dear Nancy, Dave and Bob:
We are deeply saddened by George's passing. My mother and I will always remember with great fondness our periodic lunches with George and Nancy at Daly's restaurant at the Westin Hotel in Ottawa. The discussions about politics were invariably stimulating, punctuated delightfully by George's wry sense of humour. We will miss those occasions, but most of all, we will miss him.
Deep condolences and love,
