Huizenga, M. Ellen Muskegon Mrs. M. Ellen Huizenga, age 86, was gently carried to heaven by her faithful Savior on January 23, 2021 after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. She was born August 15, 1934 in Muskegon to Francis and Ruby (Frost) Cahill and was a lifelong resident. She was a 1952 graduate of Muskegon High School and maintained close friendships with her core group of classmates. She married John J. Huizenga on September 9, 1955 and they had four children. John preceded her in death in 2002 after 46 years of marriage. She was a long-time member of Allen Avenue Christian Reformed Church, where she loved singing in the choir and where she developed many long lasting and dear friendships. Ellen was a strong supporter of Muskegon Christian Grade School and Western Michigan Christian High School. Her last position was as the secretary at Muskegon Christian Grade School where she enjoyed working with students and staff. Ellen had a contagious laugh and loved her family dearly with her life revolving around them. She is survived by her four children: Lynn and Don Vanoostveen, and their children and grandchildren, Megan and Mark Buggia (Addison and Carson), Erin and Evan Woolford (Ellis), and Devon; David and Sue Huizenga, and their children and grandchildren, Bo Wenzel, Carly and Dan Swanda (Abigail and Maxwell); Patti and Kendall Steigenga, and their children and grandchildren, Jason and Jennifer Steigenga (Jackson), Tricia and Jake Fields; Jeff and Anne Huizenga, and their children, Alex, Austin and fiance Allie Van Allen, and Katelyn. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Marva Jacobson as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her three brothers, Jack, Richard and Brian Cahill and sister, Priscilla Thomas. Ellen's family is so very grateful for the loving care she received from the staff at Robbinswood Assisted Living Center over the last six years and North Ottawa Hospice. A private family service will be held Friday, February 5, 2021. Burial will take place at Egelston Township Cemetery. Contributions in Ellen's memory may be made to Muskegon Christian Grade School or Western Michigan Christian High School. Arrangements entrusted to The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444. Share memories with the family at www.sytsemafh.com.

So sorry that Ellen and your family had to go through this disease of Alzheimer’s.
I felt badly that your phone numbers were lost during one of my moves. I wanted to follow up on where she had been moved. I sent her a card for her 80th birthday to Robinswood where someone thought she was there . It came back so I called and was told she wasn’t there.
I remember the first day she came to me in 1974 because I had a picture of a stork on the mirror , she laughed cause I told her I was pregnant. She followed me to all my 5 salon moves and first thing she would do was grab a cup of coffee & The Enquirer. There was a close relationship between myself and 4 other clients becoming friends for many years.
She lovingly talked about all her family often. Now she is in the loving arms of the Lord.....my peace be with you.
