The last time I saw Betty was at Kathryn's Bradley Beach house. 10 years ago maybe? We spent a whole day together there--cooking, pulling weeds, chatting in the backyard. It was an ordinary but extremely pleasant day and my memory is that Betty was smiling the entire time. Actually, every memory I have of Betty involved a smile and usually food. She invited me to dinner with her family so many, many times and cooked such exotica. Lamb! With mint sauce! The first time I ever had mint sauce was at her house. She threw great, welcoming parties that involved dancing! My most vivid image of Betty is from a Christmas Eve Party, circa 1970. She is standing her kitchen in a long silver lame dress that matched her hair, bragging she'd bought at Daffy Dan's for 2 dollars. There is an elfin elegance to this particular image of her. I could go on and on. I know Kathryn, Phil, Liz and Erica will miss her very much. I hope they take some solace in knowing Betty warmly touched my life too.
