I am so sadden to hear about Bud's passing. "Coach" was a wonderful, compassionate man, and made a major, positive influence on my life....one of the main reasons why I coached middle school and AAU basketball for more than 25 years. He taugh all his players more than just basketball...... lifetime lessons like "working hard, playing hard and having fun." Bud treated his players and students with respect, and his sense of humor was infectious. Some of my most favorite memories of Bud was most recently when I would run into him in Somerset at the Shop-Rite or CVS and we would reminisce about his teams in the 1960's and 1970's and he remembered many of my teammates....and could even recall some of the games and outcomes. When I asked about his family, Ricky, Jay and Meredith, Bud would light up and the conversation would always gravitate towards his grandkids and great grandkids. Bud was a classy, caring gentleman. Thank you Coach. Your legacy lives on.............

Ricky,Jay & Meredith, I am very sorry to hear about your Dad's passing. Your dad was my basketball coach at North Plainfield High for three years back in the late 60s. He was a great coach but even a better person to just be around. He made playing basketball fun, even practice. The term "Judas Priest" was the strongest language I ever heard him speak. I learned a great deal from your Dad, one that allowed me to go on and coach all three of my children in both basketball and lacrosse. I used a fast break drill he taught us that worked for both sports. And it was fun and the teams I coached enjoyed it. Your dad was just a really nice man.

Coach Porter was one of those special people whose influence was instrumental in showing his players the correct way to be a decent person. He was my Coach in Basketball and will always think fondly of this tremendous person. A teacher, mentor and strong influence on my life. Thanks Coach for your life lessons. They have stayed with me all my life.
