Major Patrick J. Monahan, Jr. PhD, JD
Morganville - Major Patrick J. Monahan, Jr. PhD, JD; 77, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 8, 2019.
Patrick was born in Bayonne, NJ, and has resided in Morganville, NJ for the past 42 years. He proudly served his country first in the ROTC, then as a Major in the U.S. Army, as a Military Intelligence Officer. He was Chief Counsel for the Advisory Committee on Judicial Conduct for the State of New Jersey for 23 years.
Patrick received his BA from Saint Peter's College. After he received his PhD in French Literature from the University of Missouri, he was a French professor and Chairman of the Honors Program at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington for 6 years. He left Gonzaga in 1976, as he received a National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowship at Yale University for a year. He then attended Rutgers Law School in Newark, while working as a professor at Saint Peter's College. Upon graduation, he worked for the law firm of Shanley & Fisher for a few years.
Beloved Husband of the late Joanne L. (Nee:O'Neill). Cherished Father of Patrick J. Monahan III {Suzann}, Sean K. Monahan {Elizabeth}, and Megan M. Maciejewski {Ken}. Devoted Grandfather of Amanda Monahan, Colin Monahan, O'Neill Monahan, Ailey Maciejewski, Alaina Maciejewski, and Rowan Maciejewski. Dear Brother of Thomas Monahan, Anne Monahan, and John Monahan.
He was predeceased by his loving parents Helen (Nee:Ryan) and Patrick J. Monahan, Sr.
Relatives and Friends are invited to attend the Viewing on Sunday, January 13th from 3 - 7 PM at the G. Keenen O'Brien Funeral Home, 984 Avenue C, Bayonne. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Monday, January 14th at 11 AM at Blessed Miriam Teresa Demjanovich Parish at Saint Andrew the Apostle Church, 125 Broadway, Bayonne. Cremation - Private.
