Anna Marino Ruggiero
North Port - Anna Marino Ruggiero passed away peacefully November 30, 2017 at Sarasota Memorial Hospital with family by her side. She was born on April 16, 1919 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Annie Volino and Dominic Marino. Anna married Frank Ruggiero in 1953 and moved to Edison, NJ in 1954. She moved to Sunrise, FL in 1975, and relocated to Englewood, FL in 1979. In 2002, she moved to North Port, FL.
Raised with her cousin Pauline Martin, they would crash weddings in their teens in Brooklyn because they loved to dance. During WWII, she worked in a defense plant. She was an active member of the Metuchen, NJ Italian American Club for many years and later became a member of the San Pedro Ladies Guild.
Anna was a wonderful cook and baker, well-known for her meatballs and gravy as well as her homemade Italian bread, biscuits, and cookies. She was a very strong, active, independent lady who enjoyed reading and having lively political discussions.
Anna is survived by her sons, Al Ruggiero, William (Jeanne) Ruggiero and daughter Karen Genitempo (Hritz [Michael]); grandchildren, Carrie and Ann Marie Hritz, Kimberly Hayes, Kristn Ruggiero, Jennifer Byrne, Laura and Christopher Ruggiero; and seven great grandchildren she adored. She is predeceased by her Husband, Frank Ruggiero and only sibling, Francis (Tommy Boy) Marino.
Visitation will be held on Monday, December 4th from 4-7PM at Farley Funeral Homes and Crematory, 5900 S. Biscayne Drive, North Port, FL 34287. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, December 5th at 10AM at San Pedro Catholic Church, 14380 Tamiami Trail North Port, FL 34287.
