Born on January 21, 1934 in Pittsburgh, Knute is preceded in death by his brother John, father Paul, mother Lillian (née Connell), and sister Mary Gur. He is survived by his wife Carol (née Couch), his children Greg, Andrea Woods (and husband Patrick), and Roger (and wife Krist'n) as well as his grandchildren Major and Macey. He is also survived by Carol's four Gemmer boys, and their wives (and children); Don & Linda, Tom & Linda (Mitchell, Joy, & Owen), Jim and Kathryn (Thomas & Jessica), and Bob and Jodi.

Knute attended Mt. Lebanon High School in Pittsburgh, graduated from Carnegie-Mellon University with a B.S. in Civil Engineering, and after serving more than 22 years in the U.S. Naval Civil Engineers Corps, retired as a Commander. Subsequently, Knute worked five years at the Collier County Transportation Department and twelve years at WilsonMiller (now Stantec) before retiring in 1996, after performing almost 38 years of service as a professional engineer licensed in both Pennsylvania and Florida.

During his 24 years of retirement, Knute volunteered years of service to Naples Free-Net and he enjoyed reading, racquetball, walking, biking, beaching, sailing, and watching football. Knute will be greatly missed by his family and friends. His final wishes were to have no celebration memorial and his remains scattered at-sea in the Gulf of Mexico.

So sorry to learn about Paul. He and I were in the same classroom in Mt Lebanon, Class of 1951. What catch my eye in the obituary listing was the name "Knute". I remember he was a big Notre Dame fan, played on our football team, and when I last saw him he was off to Notre Dame and I to Villanova. My Sympathies to his family. Andrew Higgins 802-999-7168
