Elaine Ramkey Maki
Naples, FL
Elaine Ramkey Maki, 92, formerly of Cleveland, Mayfield Heights, and Parma, OH, was called to her eternal home January 1, in Naples FL. She was born August 10, 1925, in Bradford, PA, to Claude and Esther (Polzin) Ramkey, but grew up in Cleveland, OH, where she graduated from John Hay High School. In 1946, she married Edward N. Maki (Huhtamaki) of Bovey, MN, her beloved husband of 61 years.
She became a Certified Professional Secretary in 1976, and was a member of International Association of Administrative Professionals and Executive Women International. After moving to Florida, she worked at Eagle Creek Country Club as an executive secretary and then at H & R Block as a tax preparer. She was named Secretary of the Year in Naples in 1988.
Elaine was involved in church work for most of her life. In Naples, she was active at Messiah Lutheran Church, where she served on the altar guild, was a member of Women of Messiah, served as secretary of the Church Council; she sang tenor in the choir and could be found in the church kitchen whenever there was a function at the church. She was active in Lutheran Brotherhood and Aid Association for Lutherans (now Thrivent). She and her friends in those organizations raised money and helped a lot of Collier County residents who were in need. She was also responsible for planning and organizing the annual Messiah Craft Bazaar, which was one of the first of its kind in Naples. She served as President of the Ft. Myers/SW Florida Zone of Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML) for several years and attended many of the state and international conventions of that group.
Elaine was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 7721 in Golden Gate, a member of the Golden Gate AARP, and she served on the board of Christ Community Lutheran School.
Through the years, she touched many lives and made many friends, who became endeared to her because she never failed to leave them with her signature phrase, "Have a blessed day!"
The family wishes to thank Claudia Tracy, for the many years she was always there for Elaine. Claudia was not only her friend, but the daughter she never had.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers and sisters and many friends. She leaves behind many nieces, nephews, godchildren, and their extended families.
A funeral was held on Saturday, January 13, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Mayfield Heights, OH, with interment at Western Reserve Memorial Gardens, Chesterland, OH.
A Memorial Service will be held for Florida friends at Faith Lutheran Church, 4150 Goodlette Road, Naples, FL, on January 26th, at 11:00 a.m., with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, Elaine would have requested that you make memorials in her name to Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch, Minot, ND; Lutheran Hour Ministries, St. Louis, MO; or to your favorite charity or church.

Elaine was very helpful to me in 1974 finding my first job right out of high school. I was only 17 when I applied at Arthur G. McKee and she was my reference and for that I will be forever grateful. May you rest in peace for all of the good deeds you have done over your many years.
With sympathy,
