Harold Eugene Gatrell
NEWARK: A funeral service for Harold Eugene Gatrell, age 70, of Newark, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 3, at Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Home with Pastor Tom Myers officiating. Burial will take place in Wilson Cemetery.
Harold passed away on Friday, March 29, 2013 at the Flint Ridge Nursing and Rehab. Center. He was born January 15, 1943 in Newark, Ohio to the late Harold Leo and Hazel (Mahan) Gatrell.
Harold was employed with the State of Ohio Department of Transportation and was a member of the Newark Eagles Aerie #387. He was an avid OSU football fan and enjoyed watching television, especially wrestling and game shows. He loved going to flea markets and pawn shops.
He is survived by a brother, John W. (Connie) Gatrell of Pickerington; a sister, Mary Louise (Jim) Edwards of Thornville; nephews, Kevin J. Edwards and Jeffrey K. (Cammie) Edwards; a niece, Tammy Carpenter (Joe Bailey); great-nieces and great-nephew, Audra Edwards, Marisa Edwards and Clayton Edwards; great-great-nephew, Kyler Edwards; special aunt and uncle, Jeri (and the late John) Mahan, with whom he made his home for several years as a child. He is also survived by several other aunts, uncles and cousins and special friends from the Eagles.
Special gratitude from the family to the staff of Flint Ridge for taking such wonderful care of Harold for over two years and to Hospice of Central Ohio for their excellent care during the past six months.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2, at the funeral home, 179 Granville Street, Newark.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Ohio or the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital.

Deepest Sympathy and Prayers to the Gatrell family. Harold was a great roommate to my father at Flintridge. We had some great times. He loved sharing his jolly ranchers with us. He was a kind and sweet man. He has now joined my father in heaven. They are rejoicing. Tina & Keith Scott

For whatever reason I looked at the Newark Advocate on the computer today. I was so surprised & sorry to read about Harold. It's been many, many years since I last saw any of you but Harold was such a nice, sweet guy. I know you will miss him so much. I hope you remember me & that life has been good to you.
