God Bless you Jeanne! Much love to you, Jen Sherman, Hamilton, Montana

I met Jim in the 1970's. They called him "Nature Boy". Over all his years he loved and nurtured the land without exploitation. He lived up to his nick- name, "Nature Boy".
Early on he farmed with draft horses. That was one reason for moving to Coshocton County.
He was a hard worker. He not only worked a full time job but also dealt with the farm demands. He shared labor with the neighbors and held "corn picking" parties with the Witness friends.
He eventually turned his horses over to the challenge of long distance bicycle racing even qualifying and racing in the first "Race Across America".
He had many pages in his story.
My heartfelt sympathy and condolences to his wife, family and friends. I know he will be missed.

What a guy. Jim came to me after he retired from his regular job at 65 and wanted to know what he needed to do to manage his home property. It was a mess at the time but had many opportunities. I told Jim what needed done and expressed to him the challenges. ( I learned to never challenge Jim after this), I warned him of the problems with Ailanthus control if you just cut them off. He called me months later and said "you were right, that only made it worse". He then told me that he could not find a forestry consultant to sell the poorer quality timber in his back woods that needed cut and sold, so he learned to cut timber himself, dropped the right trees, and got them sold. He wanted to plant trees in an old reclaimed area south of the house that had heavy sod. We were able to get free trees but the timing to prepare the site was poor. I told him that he would have to eliminate the sod and plant. Jim hand scalped thousands of spots to plant trees. He then hand planted thousands of trees that year. A drought killed most of them. He re-did it the second year and that planting took. He told me in 2014 or 2015 he had put 40,000 business miles on his truck running to do various TSI jobs across the state. He was 73 or 74 at the time. I remember inspecting a job that Jim did in 2016 in Tuscarawas County. I stood on the hill looking at all the work that was done. I called him while I was there and asked him, how long did it take you to do this job"? He said, well I had help on it for a couple days. I said "how long did it take"? He said Oh... maybe a couple weeks. He had treated 70 acres of invasives, vines, and thinning in two weeks! He was an amazing human being. He will be missed.
