- A memorial service celebrating the life of June Upper Vastyan, 98, of Granville will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 2, 2018 at First Presbyterian Church, 110 W. Broadway, Granville with the Rev. Karen Chakoian as celebrant.
June passed away Feb. 16, 2018 at SharonBrooke in Newark. She was born April 11, 1919 in Painesville, Ohio to the late Herbert S and Florence (Bittner) Upper.
June graduated from the Andrews School for Girls in Willoughby, Ohio in 1936. She had a career as an executive secretary in Cleveland and Columbus, Ohio. June married Ernest Vastyan on March 7, 1941. She was devoted to her family of all generations, was an expert seamstress and tailor, and volunteered many hours to charities and church. June and family hosted exchange student, Gloria Sofia Rios de Cabal of Cali, Colombia 1972-73, who has been a devoted friend since that time.
Surviving are her son, James E. Vastyan of St. Louis, MO, and daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Douglas Freeman of Granville. Grandchildren are Julia (George) Karos, Christopher (Vallie) Freeman, Laura (Canon) Krebehenne, Elizabeth Vastyan, Caroline (Tommy) McClure, David (Lea) Freeman, and James T. Vastyan. Great-grandchildren are Anna and Sophia Karos, Harper and Brant Freeman, June and Freeman Krebehenne, Theodore McClure, and Gideon Freeman.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Solomon Fund C/O First Presbyterian Church, Granville.

I will be unable to attend the memorial service, but know that my thoughts and prayers are with all of her family. I worked her hall last night, I missed her, so sad to see the empty room. She was a joy to know and care for. Love and prayers to all, Ellie Esselstein
