James R. Miller
NEWARK - A memorial service celebrating the life of James R. Miller, age 95, of Newark, will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 4, at The Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service, 59 North Fifth Street, Newark.
Jim passed away on December 28, 2017. He was born September 7, 1922 in Newark, Ohio to the late Dudley and Elsie (McWilliams) Miller.
Jim was a graduate of the Newark High School class of 1940. He received his business degree from The Ohio State University in 1949. Jim served our country in the United States Army Air Corp, protecting our country during World War II. Jim was a hard worker, working as a traffic manager at Kaiser Aluminum and worked over 14 years at Comtrac. He was a 70 year member of F&AM Newark Lodge 97.
Jim enjoyed rabbit and squirrel hunting, especially with his hunting beagles. He gardened, canned and enjoyed mushroom hunting. For fun, Jim enjoyed working crossword puzzles. Jim loved his family very much. He was an active listener and enjoyed being involved in his grandchildrens' lives. Jim's family meant so much to him. He enjoyed his time and always could share a good story. Jim will be missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his two sons, Gary A. (Rita) Miller and David Miller; a daughter, Joyce (Robert) Lang; three grandchildren, Joseph (Sharon) Miller, Lee Ann Miller, and Hunter Lang; and a great-grandchild Mason James Miller, several Miller Family nieces & nephews and the Shoe and Pierce families.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Marjorie (Shoe) Miller; three sisters and one brother.
Family and friends may call from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. Thursday, January 4, prior to the service. Masonic Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. A committal service with military honors will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, January 5, at Fairmount Cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be made in Jim's name to the American Heart Association or The James Cancer Center.

Uncle Jim was a great guy. He loved his family and his animal friends. He loved the outdoors and nature. He had a friendly personality and was very kind. He was a good citizen and provider. Our country needs more good men like Uncle Jim. His family will miss him greatly.
