Gisele Seymour of Beebe, Vermont was born in Shawinigan Falls Quebec on June 21, 1918. Daughter of Thomas and Aurore Breton. She passed away on November 9, 2018 in Newport. Upon discharge at the end of WWII she went to work at Eaton's of Montreal as a sales person for a couple of years. She then moved to Sherbrooke and worked at city hall as a receptionist and later as a switchboard operator on a Western Electric Model 551 PBX switch board until she met and married the love of her life, Halloween day 1952 at the Splendid Restaurant in Newport.
On May 30th 1953 she married William Seymour from Vermont. Together they purchased a house in Beebe Vermont where she lived until her death. From their happy union, they were blessed with three children. Gisele loved sewing quilts, crocheting, knitting and many other crafts. Gisele and her late husband Bill really enjoyed traveling to flea markets with a custom van throughout the area and state buying and selling all sorts of merchandise such as furniture, antiques and jewelry. Her favorite hobby was planting and taking care of her flowers in her flower beds in front of her house during the warm summer months. Many friends, acquaintances and strangers often stopped by the house to tell her how beautiful her flowers looked and how it made their day.
After the Derby Vermont Ames store closed in 2002, leaving the region without a big box retailer Gisele started a petition drive to lure Walmart to this area who collected over 2000 signatures with her late husband asking the select board to persuade Walmart to locate a store in Derby. On October 20th, 2015 Gisele saw her dream come one step closer to becoming reality with the ground breaking of Walmart of which she had the honor of being chosen for first spade next to Governor of Vermont Peter Shumlin. November 16th 2016 Gisele's dream finally came true. The Walmart super center opened with Gisele cutting the ribbon officially opening the store for business. After the Grand Opening Gisele, Jeff Davis and Brian Smith along with family members at her home raised a champagne toast celebrating the completion of the long hard and often bitter fight to bring Walmart to this area. On her 100th birthday June 21st 2018 Representative Brian Smith and Walmart organized and threw Gisele a birthday party at that Derby Vermont Walmart Super Center to show their appreciation for her efforts.

Our sympathies to Gisele's family. I helped with the petition drive and very much supported her efforts. She was a special lady. She didn't expect to be with us long enough to cut the ribbon to open the Walmart. I remember telling her that she "had something to live for." I am so sorry that I will not be able to attend her funeral. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.
