Veralee Burchfield

Veralee Rader Strickland Burchfield, age 100, Marshfield, Missouri, passed away on August 10, 2016 in Webco East, Marshfield, MO. She was born July 15, 1916, to Ezra C. and Sallie Pearce Rader, in Rader Missouri, in Webster County.

Veralee was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Rader, Missouri, where she was also married to William M. Strickland on May 22, 1937, by Rev. Walter Cook. To this union a daughter, Paula Jeanette, was born. William M. Strickland was deceased on March 3, 1941. Veralee moved to Marshfield in 1941 and worked in the Webster County Courthouse for many years, holding a variety of positions, including deputy county clerk. She transferred her membership to St. Paul's Lutheran Church in 1942, where she was a member until her death. At various times throughout the years, she served as pianist and organist at her churches in Rader and Marshfield. She loved music and still enjoyed playing the piano at Webco East.

On October 10, 1948, Veralee was married to Calvin H. Burchfield by Rev. Oscar Hellwege of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. To this union a son, Victor Calvin, was born. Calvin H. Burchfield preceded her in death on March 14, 2007.

Veralee was also preceded in death by her parents; her son, Victor Calvin Burchfield; son-in-law, Charles W. Robertson; seven brothers, Robert, Raymond, Lon, Jack, William, Warren, and Harold Rader; one sister, Julia Sweet; sisters-in-law, Gladys, Geneva, Doris, Zella, Thelma, Nina, and Elsie Rader; one brother-in-law, Robert Sweet. Until her death, she was the only surviving grandchild of Joseph Rader, one of the founding fathers of the town and the church at Rader, Missouri.

Survivors include her daughter, Paula Strickland Robertson; one grandson, Keith Robertson and wife Amy; two great-grandchildren, Jack and Kate Robertson; and one sister-in-law, Lelia Rader. She was "Aunt Veralee" to many nieces and nephews and their extended families, about 70 of whom attended her 100th birthday celebration on July 15. Veralee will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services for Veralee Burchfield will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 13, 2016 in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Marshfield, MO, with burial in Rader Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Rader, MO. Visitation will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday August 12, 2016 in Day Funeral Home, Marshfield, MO. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church or Rader Immanuel Lutheran cemetery in care of Day Funeral Home, P.O. Box 75, Marshfield, MO., 65706.
