Burl F. Hamilton
Burl F. Hamilton, 97 of Springfield, MO passed away peacefully at home at 2 am Monday, May 22, 2017. The Lord called him home after a fiercely fought battle with cancer. Burl was a dedicated Christian from a young age and tried never to miss an opportunity to tell others about salvation through Jesus Christ.
Burl was born in Wright County, MO to M. Frank Hamilton and Myra Ann (Dudley) Hamilton. He graduated from Senior High School, Springfield and studied for one year at what was Central Bible College. He continued to advance his formal education at Drury University and Missouri Southern State University.
Burl made most of his life and career in Joplin, MO. He worked in petroleum distribution as president of Crockett Oil Company and Joplin Oil Company. He possessed great business acumen and was exceptionally successful in his work.
He was active in several business and civic organizations and was pleased to serve as officer and board member. He received numerous local, state and national awards and accolades.
Burl is survived by his wife, Gloria of the home; his daughter, Mary Jean Hamilton-Haege; and Gloria's daughter, Denise (Michael) Carter all of Springfield, MO.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois and is survived by her daughters, Shari (Stan) Crowell, Springfield, MO and Carole (Charles) Gateley, Pine Mountain, GA.
He was preceded in death by his wife Lou and is survived by her daughter, Sheila (Bob) Suvino, Fayetteville, AR. Also surviving are fourteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was blessed with a large extended family and loyal friends.
Graveside services will be at 2 pm Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at Eastlawn Cemetery, Springfield with the Rev. Michael Overton officiating under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. No visitation is scheduled; however, friends may call from 11 am to 1 pm on Tuesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Assemblies of God Latin America Child Care or The Salvation Army, 1707 W. Chestnut Expressway, Springfield, MO 65802.
