Reeds Spring - Dr. Virginia Lee Fogerson, M.D., age 97, passed away January 12, 2021 at Shepard of the Hills nursing center in Branson, Mo. She was born in Aurora, Mo. on September 3, 1923 to Wilburn Edgar and Anna (Elliott) Fogerson. They moved to Springfield. Virginia attended Senior High School. Upon graduation she attended Drury. She completed her masters at Vassar College. She went to work as a biologist, but a doctor soon talked her into attending medical school. She graduated from Women's Medical College in Philadelphia. Upon completion of her internship and residency she got an additional residency in surgery at Yale University. She practiced in Vermont for several years but returned to southwest Missouri to be near her mother, as she aged. She was the first full time Chief of Staff for W.E. Hanley Memorial City Hospital in Springfield. She served for many years as physician for the Green County Health Department until her retirement.
She was an avid sailor and served as a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary for many years.
She was a life-long Presbyterian and a member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Kimberling City, Mo.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 16 at 10 AM at St, Andrew Presbyterian Church. Stumpff Funeral Home Kimberling City, MO is in charge of arrangements.
