I met Virginia 37 years ago when beginning my library career at the Springfield-Greene County Library System. She was always uplifting and fun. I remember her most for her stories (like the one about getting her thumb shut in the car door--and locked!). When I had a patron trying to remember a children's book title--"I just remember it was a red book and about dogs, and I loved it!" I would call Virginia. Nine times out of ten she would know the book, or find out with some research. She was a wonderful librarian and a great person. I will miss her!

i didn't know Virginia well. We would see each other at church, The Downtown Church, and say hello. Last year right after Sunday service my husband and I were walking out the church. I heard a voice calling,"Wait, wait. Virginia wants to talk to you." I turn and see Virginia walking as fast as possible with her walker so I start walking to meet her. During service I had presented the children's sermon. Virginia thanked me and said, "You talked to the kids. Not everyone does that. Some talk to the congregation. They talk to the adults. You talked to the kids. Keep doing that." She cared so much for the children.
