William (Bill) Anderson

William (Bill) Charles Anderson, age 85 of Aurora, Missouri passed away December 31, 2012 at home surrounded by his loving family. Born December 30, 1927 in Ponca City, Oklahoma, he was the second of five children born to Henry and Rosalie (Williams) Anderson.

He graduated from Hammond High in Indiana in 1946 and enlisted in the U.S. Army where he was stationed on Guam. Proudly serving his country during WWII, Bill was honorably discharged in 1948. After his discharge, he attended the University of Illinois and was employed with Cities Service Oil Company as a Lab Technician. He met the love of his life, Donna Jean Livermore, in 1948 and married her on June 22, 1951. They shared 61 years together.

In 1966, Bill began his career as a Case Worker with the Missouri Division of Family Services. He received his Bachelor of Science in Sociology from School of the Ozarks. As his career progressed and promotions occurred, he ultimately settled in Aurora. In 1973 he received his Master of Science in Guidance and Counseling from SMS. Bill retired in 1990 as Assistant Area IV Director.

He was a member of Aurora First Christian Church, American Legion Post 126, and a lifelong member of the NRA. Bill was an avid woodworker, a master of the vegetable garden, gunsmith, and outdoorsman. He will be fondly missed by all who knew him, especially those who called him Dad and Papa.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Mark Sterling; granddaughter, Lindsay Sterling; two brothers, Henry, Jr. (Hank) and Monty Anderson; and a very special aunt and uncle, Ina May and Virgil Six.

Survivors include his loving wife, Donna, of the home; three daughters, Paula Sterling of Rowlett, TX, Nancy Jameson (Mike) of Jefferson City, MO, and Sally Pendergrass of Tulsa, OK; six grandchildren, Natalie Sterling of Potomac Falls, VA, Melissa Stampfly (Kevin), Ashley Jameson all of Springfield, Shelley Potts (Jarred) of Columbia, MO, Travis Pendergrass, Kyle Pendergrass (fiancée Casey Lytle) all of Tulsa, OK; three great grandchildren, Aiden Sterling Barbour, Truman Stampfly and Jackson Pendergrass; two sisters, Virginia Long of Joplin, MO and Karen Walker of Royal Oaks, MI; sisters-in-law, Mary Anderson, Jo Anderson and Beverly Fix; numerous other loving relatives and a host of dear friends.

A celebration of Bill's life will be held on Friday, January 4, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home, Aurora, with burial and full military honors to follow in Maple Park Cemetery, Aurora. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, January 3, 2013 in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Christian Church of Aurora, the American Legion Post #126 or the Alzheimer's Association. Donations may be left at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank Mercy Hospice for their excellent service, especially Jerry Nelson, RN, Arica Timmons, CNA, Judy Belt, RN and Jack Betts, Chaplain.
