I worked for Bill at the Greene County Sheriff's Department. He was the best mentor I have ever had, as he not only taught me about the job, but I learned things from him that helped make me a better person. LT had a solid impact on my life, and I consider it an honor to have known him. My condolences to his entire family, and I am happy that they had someone as great as him in their lives. Mark Buechler

My name is Vince Osiel. I was given an opportunity to meet a great friend and mentor while being employed at Greene County Sheriff's Department. I began my careerin 1995 and began to work with Sgt. Nelson. Through his leadership and commitment in me, I advanced to OIC, booking and then Bill became Lt. And I was promoted to his Sgt.on his squad. I worked with Lt.Nelson about 8 years and have seen alot and was through alot with him. I've turkey hunted, fished and he was more than a co-worker to me. He will be missed. Vince Osiel

Bill and I went to the Academy together in 1991, and then I later worked at GCJ 1993-1995 with him. He was about business and safety for staff, but kept it light, whenever possible. Definitely learned a lot from this man. Prayers to the family.

So sorry to hear of Bill's passing. He taught me a lot and I still tell about those lessons to this day. A great man who will be missed.
