To my childhood friend and summertime neighbor, Kathy," and to your daughters Patricia and Cheryl, whom I met once when they were teens, and their families; I am so sorry for the loss of your mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

From the time my grandmother built her house next door in 1960, you were all so kind to my grandmother, my mom, and me. I remember your parents fondly, as well as Vivian's parents, Bill and Betty. Vivian remained my mom's good friend for life, and was a comfort to her in her final years.

As the elders in my life have gradually departed, I've had the sense of all the grown-ups having gone away; and now I have that feeling again. Now it is us who are each grandparents, and it's been a very long time since you generously shared your play-doh with me. Life goes on, but I'll remember you and your family as long as I live.

Wishing you and yours peace and warm memories,

Michael Walsh
