Upon returning from working out of town this weekend I opened the Freeport Herald and my heart sank. On the front page was the dreadful news that a dear and respected teacher and friend had passed on. June Tinkhauser was one of, if not the most, influential teachers I had in my youth. She was the BEST! Tough yet Fun. She suggested I read Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged" back in my High School Hippie days. It changed my outlook on life and politics. I remember her taking our Satire class on a trip to the Village Vanguard in Manhattan to see National Lampoon Lemmings starring as of yet unknowns John Belushi and Chevy Chase. I'll never forget that show and the fun time we all had back in 1974. She always went those extra miles going out of her way to make it fun to learn. Later in life she would regularly stop by my store in Freeport where we would converse and recount stories of times past and new adventures. She would always continue to try educating me by recommending literature to read. It was in her DNA. I'll remember her always... brightening my day with a smile on her face. She will be sorely missed. I am saddened I could not pay my final respects in person to someone I so admired. My deepest condolences to her family. The world is poorer for her passing.

Mrs Tink was an amazing teacher who made such an impact on so many students. Was fortunate enough to have gone to London with her as a Tinks traveler. Thoughts and prayers for her family! RIP Mrs. Tink.

Mrs. Tinkhauser was one of the warmest most vivacious and thoughtful people I ever met. My warmest regards to all her family at this time.
