I would like to express my deepest sympathies for the loss of your loved one, who will be remembered for his classic hit that he penned and also other songs he wrote. A truly talented man. May you find comfort and strength in God during this time of sorrow.

I was a friend of Irvings for over a quarter of a century. Abbey Lincoln and I would visit him at his home and also have lunch or dinner together - and once we attended a Broadway show - but for some reason I cant remember the name of the show but I do remember Irving laughing joyously as he helped Abbey and I out of the car.

Irving Burgie had a great love for his communitys many causes and he was a good friend to the many children I helped in my non- profit Harlem Gallery. He graciously helped all of the Creative Find children attend the memorable concert of Abbey Lincolns at Carnegie Hall. Irving loved his family, his many friends, and telling of his many travels on luxury ships around the world.

He enjoyed his French lessons with a good friend, a wonderful painter and artist, Monique Serres - and often I would see Abbey, Monique, and other beautiful artists at gatherings at Irvings home where he beamed when showing off his photographic collection of his family and sons and the many awards he received from his world famous songs.

I wrote about Irving in my autobiography, The Joy Boys Daughter, and Irving called to tell me that he enjoyed reading my book because we had shared many reminisces from the eighties and nineties.

Irving would often hum to classical music he was listening to from his cars stereo system while dropping off friend's after one of the many gatherings at his home. He had a fetching laugh and a twinkle in his eye when he talked about his love of his mothers home Country, Barbados.
