Marian has 8 grandchildren Scott (Cornelia) Turyn, Ben Turyn, Page Krugman, Will Krugman, Jonathan Krugman, Julia Krugman, Natalie Geisler, and Grant Geisler, and 1 great granddaughter, Eleanor Turyn. Marian is also survived by her brother Charles Herbert Gold of the Bronx, New York, many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Marian, born in Union City, NJ, to the late Samuel and Bertha Gold. She grew up in Mt. Vernon, NY and Brooklyn, NY. Shortly after Pearl Harbor she enlisted in the US Marine Corps and served with distinction during WWII from 1944 - 1946. After the war, she met her soon to be husband of nearly 50 years, Dr. Arnold David Krugman of Brooklyn, NY, while in college at LIU Brooklyn. They married in 1947 and moved to Lexington, KY, to finish their graduate degrees at the University of KY and begin their family. For the next 50 years the Krugmans worked in academia at Duke University and The University of North Carolina Chapel Hill and for the benefit of U.S. Military Veterans. Marian as a librarian, media specialist, and certified bibliotherapist and Arnold as a clinical psychologist and administrator with the Veterans Administration.

After moving to Durham in 1964, Marian, a life-long learner earned a master's degree in Library Science at UNC and was active with local and national, social and cultural causes and numerous organizations. She was a member of Temple Beth-El and then Judea Reform Congregation. She was an avid bridge player, traveled the world well into her 80s including climbing the Great Wall of China and Machu Picchu, and was known as an inventive chef among her Durham Supper Club friends. Leaving Durham in 1974 for Princeton, NJ, Marian returned to Durham in 1998, and lived in the Forest at Duke until her passing.

Marian was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She was the person who met you and never let you forget that you ever passed through her life. Her stories of the people she met throughout her life made this world very small and gave her so much happiness. She loved connecting people all her life all throughout the world. Marian's drive, generous spirit of inclusion, love of learning and life will be sorely missed by family and friends alike.

Your mom was an amazing woman. I know I met her once or twice, but wish I had known her. Peace to you and your family.
