Reading Hazel's obituary and tribute brought back a flood of treasured childhood memories when our lives intersected through my friendship with Melinda: afternoons spent at the Wards after wearing out our welcome at the 4-H horse stable, skating on Ward's pond, Rainbow Girls, and so many more! Hazel made a big impression on me in so many ways and, later during my nursing career, I often thought back about her insulin-dependent diabetes and realized how incredibly well she managed her diet and health at a time when there was not so much general knowledge about the disease. Recognizing that she was so disciplined in caring for herself even way back then made me admire her all the more and is a testament to her longevity.

I can only imagine how big a void her passing leaves for all of you, including Hazels now very large, extended family. My thoughts and prayers go out Melinda, Barbara, Penny, Robert, and all of your family and friends. I know how close a family you are and how much your mom will be missed especially during this upcoming holiday season. I hope that warm memories will help when you find yourselves missing her most.
With love and feeling blessed that she touched my life too,
Joanne (Jo) Yankura

She was always like my second mom....and always knew when Robert and I were up to mischief.

my love to the entire Ward clan. Ken Schwanfelder
