Dod always had a smile on his face, ready to help anyone who asked him. I met him when SEOPF was flourishing many years ago and knew him then as a resourceful and knowledgeable friend in HLA and Organ Transplantation. He had a gentle soul and will be missed!

I first met Dod in December of 2000, when he interviewed me for my first job out of college at the Ochsner HLA lab. His mentorship and encouragement helped me to develop that unique opportunity into a career which I have loved. In the lab, he was fairly quiet, and some of us in the later years of his tenure had no idea of his influence and accomplishments. I had the pleasure of attending a few offsite meetings with Dod, where I got to know him better. We shared the stories of our own struggles with our beloved New Orleans area after Katrina. Since those meetings and now in my many travels to labs across the country, I have learned that Dod's influence and network of those who knew and loved him was far reaching. He will be greatly missed.

Dod will be missed by the HLA and Transplantation community. I have known him for over 25 years and found him to be very kind and considerate individual. Dod has been a true friend to me and my family and will be greatly missed. It is difficult to imagine ASHI without Dod's presence. He was an integral part of the HLA community, educating and sharing his knowledge with technicians throughout the world. Dod, I hadn't seen you in years and never imagined writing a few words under this circumstances. You will be missed so much!!! You brought the HLA world into my life 25 years ago; the memory of our first SSP in 1992 with Zetterquist in front of the workshop crowd is still with me in my NGS time zone HLA antisera, our frozen cell tray and all the inspection trips we took Dod, you were a great mentor and friend and will be deeply missed.
