Norman J. Leimgruebler

Norman J., 65, passed away on August 12, 2003. He was born on October 20, 1937, in Long Beach, California and grew up in Corpus Christi, Texas. He served as a life guard for the city during high school, became an Eagle Scout, and attended Del Mar College. He was on active duty in the United States Marine Corps for 26 years. He proudly served three tours in Viet Nam for which he received two Purple Hearts. He retired from the Marine Corps as a Master Gunnery Sergeant in 1982. He worked for the Oklahoma Department of Human Services and Department of Rehabilitation Services from 1982 until his retirement in 1995. He was active the International Lions Club and was District Governor for District 3-H in 1986-87. For six years, Norm served as President of the Sooner NuVoice Club. During that time, he delivered antitobacco messages to young people in the public schools in the Oklahoma City area and he provided a unique service to new laryngectomees and their families. As a cancer survivor himself, Norm was a living example of the hope he instilled in his fellow laryngetomees throughout Oklahoma. Norm suffered a heart attack on Tuesday while enjoying a day golfing with friends. His family and friends will miss his caring spirit, sincere generosity, and exuberant sense of humor. He is survived by his wife, Zoe, three sons, John Leimgruebler and Michael Leimgruebler of Raleigh, NC, David Walker of Atlanta, GA, one daughter, Robin Martinet of Tulsa, and four grandchildren, Kendall, Amanda, Ellie, and Morgane.
