Marion Pinsdorf Obituary

PINSDORF
Dr. Marion K.
When Dr. Marion K. Pinsdorf succumbed to pneumonia the morning of November 12, 2015, at the age of 83, one of the pioneers in the worlds of business and academia passed, leaving not only family and friends to mourn her loss, but also the many colleagues and students she led and taught and mentored and with whom she collaborated during a long and illustrious and varied career that took her from Brazil and Hawaii and the WWI battlefields of France to the corporate world and the universities. At a time when women were not a factor in the boardroom, Dr. Pinsdorf was a Vice President of Textron, worked on the combination of Connecticut General and INA which created CIGNA, and at Hill & Knowlton, all of which experiences gave her the impetus and grounding to write extensively and with depth and humor on crisis communications. In the mid-70's, Dr. Pinsdorf served on the board of Amfac, making frequent visits to Hawaii and becoming engaged in its history and traditions and the genesis of its challenges and opportunities, never passing up the opportunity to learn, to see connections, and then to incorporate those understandings into the body of her work as she advanced. She authored Communicating When Your Company Is Under Siege and All Crises Are Global: managing to escape chaos, published by the Fordham University Press, among others on corporate communications.Dr. Pinsdorf lectured extensively, including at the War College, and taught at Brown University, Drew University, the University of St. Gallen, and Fordham's Graduate School of Business Administration, where she was a Senior Fellow in Communications. Her range was not limited to the boardroom and crises and the classroom. Dr. Pinsdorf began her career as a reporter for the Bergen Evening Record, in the mid-50's, covering local politics and crime and culture as part of a love affair with Bergen County and particularly Leonia, and the home to which she always returned.Dr. Pinsdorf, born June 22, 1932 in Teaneck, N.J. to George Pinsdorf and Kathryn Green Pinsdorf, is survived by her cousin John Pinsdorf and God-son, Clifford Spierer. A memorial service is planned for the spring. For information call (201) 944-0100 or www.frankpatti.com
