Alice Borden Elm, age 95, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 18, 2021 at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital in Woodstock. She was currently a resident at Greenfield of Woodstock. Alice was born January 30, 1925 to William and Beulah Coffman. Married at the age of 17 to Cecil U. Borden, she devoted her life to raising their five children. She was most passionate about her family, volunteer service and art. As her family began to grow, she spent much of her life passing on her wisdom and traditions to her 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. After the passing of her husband, she was fortunate enough to have a second love in her life and married Russell Elm at the age of 71. As they blended their families together, she gained three more sons, a daughter-in law and their families. Having so much time on earth, she touched the lives of so many in her church and community. She was an active member of Wesley Chapel Church in Edinburg for her entire life, volunteered in the SMH Auxiliary for 31 years, served as a charter member of the Family and Community Education club for over 40 years and was an active member of several other local organizations. Alice spent countless hours of her life sewing, painting, gardening, cooking, and sharing her interests with her children and grandchildren.
Alice was so thankful for her large family. She grew up with five siblings: Dorothy Clem (predeceased), Winfred Coffman (predeceased), Arlene Frye (predeceased), Everett Coffman (predeceased), William "Bill" Coffman (predeceased). She enjoyed raising five children: Patsy Wetzel and husband Connie; Jerry Borden; Nelson Borden and wife Linda; Robin Miller and husband Otie; Lisa Wells (predeceased) and husband Scott. She loved watching her grandchildren grow: Greg Baker, Phil Baker, Barry Baker, Darin Borden, Jennifer Borden, Tommy Borden, Terry Borden, Melissa Hockman, Natalie Rhodes, Matt Miller, Nathan Wells, and Megan Wells. Alice was also abundantly blessed with extended family and friends.
A small, private graveside service will be held for family at Sunset View Memorial Gardens in Woodstock on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, monetary donations can be made to Wesley Chapel Church in her memory. Address: P.O. Box 310, Edinburg, VA 22824.
