Ray L. Polk, age 81, a resident of Strasburg, VA passed away peacefully at his home on January 4, 2021 surrounded by his family.

A funeral service for Ray will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 23, 2021 at Stover Memorial Chapel with Rev. John Haynes, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery.

Ray was born in Strasburg, VA on March 1, 1939 the son of the late Raymond Lee Polk and the late Elizabeth Katherine Dyke Lam. He worked for Ricard's Masonry for over 30 years as a bricklayer and foreman. Ray was a member of the Strasburg United Methodist Church, the Strasburg Moose Lodge 403, and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.

Ray enjoyed traveling with his wife and family. He and his wife went on cruises to Hawaii, Alaska, and a Rhine River cruise in Europe visiting Germany and the Netherlands. They also traveled to Maine and Nova Scotia, Canada. He traveled out west with his family to North and South Dakota, Montana, and Wyoming and southwest to Texas, Arizona, and New Mexico. He took many trips with his children and grandchildren to Florida to Disney World.

Ray also enjoyed hunting. He took many hunting trips with his son and friends to Maine, North Dakota, and Montana hunting bear, elk, and pheasants. He also loved to plant and tend to his vegetable garden every year. Ray enjoyed woodworking. He made many projects for his children and grandchildren. Ray's masonry work can be seen at many local buildings such as the Winchester Medical Center, Westminster Canterbury in Winchester and Signal Knob Middle School in Strasburg. He also did renovation work at the Arts and Industries Smithsonian building in Washington, DC.

In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by two brothers, Junior F. "Sammy" Polk and William E. "Woody" Polk and a sister, Marie Kline.

Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Sylvia Jean Mayhew Polk; his children Dale Polk and wife Donna, Belinda Miller and husband Doug, and Tina Clutter and husband Greg all of Strasburg, VA; his grandchildren, Bradley Polk, Monica McClure, Brittany Henning, Amanda Scholtz, Matthew Clutter, and Megan Clutter; his great-grandchildren, Cayden Polk, Kali Polk, Liam Polk, Jamon McClure, Gavon McClure, Peyton Scholtz, and Reagan Scholtz; three sisters, Janet Sturgeon of Edinburg, Dorothy Sites of Hagerstown, MD and Mildred Funkhouser of Strasburg, VA; two half-brothers, Jerry Polk of Orlando, FL and Richard Lam of Fort Valley along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Pallbearers will be John Rosenberger, Mike Kline, Matthew Kline, Bradley Polk, Matthew Clutter and Richard Kleese.

The Family will receive friends at Stover Funeral Home on Friday, January 22, 2021 from 6-8 p.m.

The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorial contributions to the Strasburg United Methodist Church, 114 W. Washington St., Strasburg, VA 22657 or the American Heart Association, 4601 N Fairfax Dr. Suite 700, Arlington, VA 22203.
