After a valiant battle with cancer, Lora Layne McAllister died on June 25, 2020, in DeFuniak Springs, Florida, at the age of 58. She leaves behind her best friend and the love of her life, Dave Crooke; her sons, Kyle Padgett (Melissa Hampton) and Kade McAllister; and beloved grandson, Xavier Padgett.

Lora was born on October 20, 1961, in Paintsville, Kentucky, to father Clyde Howard and mother Lynn Allen. Lora grew up in Petaluma, California, San Bernardino, California, and Columbus, Ohio, with her two brothers and sister. She graduated from Walnut Ridge High School in Columbus, Ohio, in 1980. Upon graduation, Lora moved to Florida where she earned and associate degree in early childhood education. She taught briefly in a child care center but worked more than twenty years in the tourism industry in Destin, Florida.

To know Lora was to love Lora. She had a heart of gold and would help anyone with anything anywhere. Her two sons were her pride and joy; everything she did, she did it for them. Lora was also a devoted 'granny' to her only grandchild. Lora also had a fun-loving, free spirit. She loved riding Harleys, jamming on the drums, rocking out to music, and belting out Janis Joplin songs during local karaoke nights. She loved the Ohio State Buckeyes, LSU Tigers, and the New Orleans Saints. Mostly, Lora loved hanging out and being silly with her family and friends.

Lora is survived by her brothers, Gregory Howard (Jeri Ross) and Anthony Howard (Chad Wright); her sister, Trina (Dave) Ptak; her nieces, Brooke Howard and Sophia Ptak; her nephew, Owen Ptak; many aunts, uncles, and cousins as well as former husband Skip McAllister. She is also survived by her three loyal dogs, Champ, Lela, and Jake. Lora is preceded in death by her parents as well as her first husband, Sonny Padgett.

Lora requested to be cremated and to have her ashes spread in the places she loved most. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. The family would especially like to thank Dave Crooke for his impeccable, loving, and selfless care of Lora during her illness. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
