Ottilia "Tillie" Adkins
Ottilia "Tillie" Tekla Josephine Ohnheiser Adkins, died peacefully on February 3, 2021, in Tallahassee, Florida. She was 91 years old.
Tillie was born April 7, 1929, in Schulenburg, Texas, the youngest of eleven children of Emil and Wilhelmina Ohnheiser. After graduating from Hallettsville High School in 1946, Tillie left her family farm to attend business school in San Antonio where she met and married James "Jim" Harrel Adkins in 1947. During Jim's 30+ year career in the Air Force, they moved with their two children Cindy and Jack around the US and overseas, settling in the Fort Walton Beach/Niceville area in 1965. Tillie was active in the kids' lives and with the Catholic church, and served as a bookkeeper for 20 years to Edwins Elementary School. She loved camping with her family, sailing, fishing, slot machines, Bingo, bowling, football, reading, and attending special events of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In her later years, Tillie moved to Tallahassee, Florida, to be closer to family. She is survived by her daughter Cynthia "Cindy" Denise Adkins Cox (Eddie) of Montgomery, AL, and son Jack Harrel Adkins (Gwen) of Tallahassee, FL, and by her beloved grandchildren Alex Cox (Keishell) of Savannah, GA, Vanessa Cox Warner (Reed) of Bessemer, AL, and Collin, Connor and Gwennie Adkins of Tallahassee, FL, as well as her five great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
The family is grateful to the caretakers of Seven Hills Rehab who have cared for her for many months.
A funeral mass celebrating Tillie's life will be held at 2:00PM on Saturday, February 27, 2021, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 624 Miccosukee Road, Tallahassee, Florida. Livestreaming will be available via the church website at https://www.bsctlh.com/
