Mr Johnson was a very good principal who knew the students personally and took an interest in our success after high school. His quiet and positive influence has stayed with me in all the years since graduation. His contribution to Valpo and the wider world lives on in each student he helped along the way.

Garth was a wonderful neighbor and friend. He had an optimistic spirit and was full of kindness to others. We became acquainted in his later years while he was walking his dog Duffy. Our dogs became friends and we would frequently spend time visiting over iced tea and snacks in his yard or ours while our dogs played. We would talk about current news, the Valpo schools, baseball games, and our families. He was genuinely interested in the lives of others. His love for his daughter Julie, his grandchildren, and extended family and friends was quite evident. He was a great role model on how to age gracefully and continue to enjoy life. He will be remembered with love.

Great picture of Garth and my Grandson, Vaughn together. You will be missed by your family but now you are walking together again with my Dad, Ed Cohn.

I remember him as being a very caring man. In these later years he became a good friend of my dad, Mert Bray. My father enjoyed having breakfasts with him and the other retired Valpo educators. He will be missed. My sympathies to you, Julie.

Mr. Johnson was an excellent teacher. Due to his influence as my typing and accounting teacher, it led me to a career as a business education teacher. I am forever grateful for his kindness and inspiration. My thoughts and prayers are with the Johnson family. Judy Pifer Fischer, Vaparaiso, Indiana

Garth Johnson was a wonderful typing teacher and I am so grateful to still be able to type since 1958.
When my four children had him as principle in the 80's at the new high school, Mr. Johnson gave special needed attention to two of them... very kind and supportive. I will be forever grateful for this wonderful man.

Garth was a great principal. He was my principal at TJ Jr High and then followed me to VHS. While walking with him at the YMCA, I accused him of stalking me. He laughed and reminded me of his sense of humor and being a great educator. RIP Garth. My condolences to the family.
He left a great legacy to the Valpo school system.
