Marilyn, I am so sorry to hear about John. You are in my thoughts and prayers. I didn't realize that Catherine had died also. I would love to see you.

You are in a better place, but will be missed by so many. Dr. Ames, you opened doors for me. I SMILE because of you, I have relationships because of you, I make peoples day because of you. My husband and son enjoy my goofy grin, because Of YOU!

You helped so many of us shine...your work will always live on!

I had been going to Dr.Ames since I was in 4th grade. As an adult, I followed him when he moved his practice from Merrillville to Valparaiso. It saddened me when he moved his practice to Schereville and I had to change dentist. I spent many hours in his dental chairs. He would always tell me, ever since I was a kid, that I was his favorite patient. As an adult, getting some dental work done, again he proceeds to tell me that I am his favorite patient. Not being the shy little kid anymore, I tell him that he probably says that to all of his patients. His response was no, that even as a kid, I would sit through him working on my teeth, never squirming in the chair or complaining. He said he has adult patients that can't even sit still. To me, Dr. Ames looked like the guy in the Empire commercial. I remember he had gotten these appointment reminder cards made up with his caricature on them. Those caricature appointment cards looked exactly like the Empire guy. To this day, whenever I see the Empire commercial, I think of Dr. Ames. I know this is long, but you have to understand that Dr. Ames saw me grow up and have 3 kids of my own. I don't know if he still had the picture I had given him of my 3 kids. He was so delighted when I gave him that picture, that he said he was going to put it in his office. Heaven gained a great dentist. Dr. Ames, you will be truly missed by all those who have had the honor to gotten to know you. You have touched so many lives for all you have done. You will always hold a special place in my heart. ❤ R.I.P. Dr.Ames until we meet again.

After 25 years of working with this man and several after that just being his friend, I can say I was blessed to know him. My life is forever changed because of him. His dedication and pure passion for his craft was evident. The opportunity to give our patients beautiful smiles was very rewarding. There will never be another John L. Ames. Thank you Doc. Peace be with you
