I will miss following Shirley's life of service in Nepal but will remember her with deep affection. Some of my best memories were summer or Christmas vacations with cousins when we were kids. Sending love and prayers to all the Shipmans. I love you all.

Your cousin,

I collaborated with Shirley whenever I was back in Nepal teaching critical care nursing. She was a very knowledgable nurse, proud of having worked at a major heart center in Texas. She maintained current knowledge of nursing and was careful to stay updated despite the distances. Shirley had deep knowledge of women's empowerment issues as well as the cultural aspects of doing business in a challenging cultural environment - she was "street smart" and always offered practical advice to navigate the byzantine maze of business relationships in Nepal. She was very comfortable living as an expatriate and serves as a role model for nurses who consider working overseas.
