I was so sorry to learn of John's passing. It was quite bold of him to join the Seido class, especially with both his sons devoted to karate. I felt he wanted both to share their experience with them by participating himself, and he too wanted to explore a new frontier. He really stretched himself to his physical limits. Because he and I were among the older adults in the class, and being more experienced, I felt that I should watch out for him. He would often come over and ask questions about why we were doing certain things, shall we say of an extremely challenging nature. When I said to him, "Honestly, I don't know," he looked at me and we both started laughing. That laughter was our bond, and I always loved his quiet concern for the progress of his boys, John Michael and Erik. Our prayers for you, the boys and for the repose of his soul.
